MOT Changes Could Cost You £2500 And 3 Points!

There are new changes to the MOT test coming into effect on the 20th May 2018 find out here how to avoid the new harsher punishments!

The new criteria is in aid of making Britain’s cars more environmentally friendly as tougher emissions tests are enforced, from now on things like smoke can fail your car immediately, especially for diesel cars! If smoke is coming out of the exhaust this is classed as a major fault, even if this is due to a diesel particulate filter.

The main change, however, is that any faults will now be rated into one of three categories – dangerous major and minor:

  • Minor faults are classed as issues that have no significant effect on the safety of the vehicle or impact on the environment
  • Major faults will be any issues where the car is thought to be less safe and have an impact on the environment
  • Dangerous faults, however, pose an immediate risk to road safety and have an impact on the environment.

New rules state that if you take your car for an MOT before it runs out and then fails you cannot keep driving until the old one runs out, this will result in a £2500 fine! This was due to motorists taking their car in early to check if work needed doing, however, the new rules mean it will be registered as unroadworthy immediately no matter how long is left on the old MOT.

Among the new tests will include checks for Steering, breaking and lighting. Even small cracks in your wing mirror or windscreen can mean you fail under new rules.

In a quote from the RAC they have criticised the new changes "Rather than MOT failures simply being black and white, the new system creates the potential for confusion as testers will have to make a judgment as to whether faults are 'Dangerous', 'Major' or 'Minor'” RAC spokesman Simon Williams

Fix up your car before the test date with Megavaux spare parts!

A Brief History into Vauxhall and Opel

Vauxhall is a well-known large car brand in the United Kingdom which was established in 1857 by Alex Wilson with the original plan to produce pumps and marine engines. It wasn’t until 1903 when they created their first car that Vauxhall became known for what it is today, a car manufacturing company.

In contrast Opel started in 1863 by Adam Opel, the company began their journey by manufacturing sewing machines. However, in 1902 they showed their first car at the Hamburg motor show and went on to produce their very first car in 1906, after Vauxhall. By 1914 Opel had created a reputation for themselves, they became Germanys largest car producer.

Fast forward some decades later and both the brands are now owned by GM (general motors), GM is recognised for having a global presence. Now both Vauxhall and Opel produce the same cars, however, Vauxhall is the UK branding name, it is considered that the UK name is too strong and recognised in society to change to Opel.

In some countries the Vauxhall name was dropped in 1982 as the brand name was not as strong in comparison to the United Kingdom.

At Megavaux we pride ourselves on being Vauxhall specialists, however, we sell and produce parts for both Vauxhall and Opel cars. We have parts for a variety of different car models so you won’t be left stuck with a Vauxhall or Opel car that is in need of repairing. If you can’t find a part that you are looking for than you can use our part request page to see if we can provide you with what you need. Servicing Vauxhall Cars

When you have a car its essential that you look after it and make sure that it’s in a full working condition. You need to take constant care of your vehicle and ask questions like, have you got enough oil? Do you need petrol? Is everything running correctly? To take the latter point off your mind you need to take your car to be serviced from time to time.

Despite the fact you may think your car is fine, if you are not a trained mechanic then you cannot be a 100% sure that your vehicle is fine. Getting your car serviced is a prime way to ensure that your car is checked for maintenance issues and is running fine.

If you want the best out of your car performance wise then regularly and correctly getting your car serviced is one of the best ways to make sure that you are getting a key performance out of your vehicle.

The most beneficial reason to get your car serviced regularly is that it is the most efficient way to make sure that your car lasts longer and can perform year after year. This in turn may save you money in the long run.

Depending on what Vauxhall you drive effects how regularly you get your car serviced, it could vary from once every year to after every 20,000 miles that you clock up.

However, if it turns out that you need to replace some parts of your Vauxhall than choose MegaVaux as your part replacement service. We have a wide range of parts for different makes and models of Vauxhalls.

So if you want to think about the future of your car book in a service today.
